A Glimmer of Hope!

We applied for several new places last night and today, and so far 2 of them have accepted our application. One of them was more of a backup because we knew we could get it (they had 4 openings) and we weren't especially fond of the layout. The other place is an upstairs/downstairs duplex, which we really liked. The landlord is supposed to be emailing me the contract paperwork tonight and I'll meet with him tomorrow to discuss and sign it.

The house is in Orem, but this side of the Parkway. That's still 10-15 minutes closer to work with all the time it takes to travel down University Ave and up State to the Parkway. Although it is an upstairs/downstairs duplex, it's an actual duplex (not an afterthought basement-to-apartment conversion), and we'll be upstairs (main floor). We don't have any pictures yet, but you can see the place on Google Street View.

Our entrance is either the front door or the side door in the left car port. The front door opens to the living room. The side door opens to the kitchen area. The kitchen's not huge, but it's got what we need with a dishwasher, stove, microwave, fridge, and decent cabinet space. Behind the side door are the washer/dryer hookups and more cabinets. On the opposite end of the kitchen, there's a dining space that should have enough room for our table. Also, the whole kitchen/laundry/dining area is wood flooring.

First left down the hall is the bathroom, which has linen cabinets too. Across the hall is the master(?) bedroom (it seems to be the biggest bedroom, but we'll measure later). There are two more bedrooms at the end of the hall, one on the right and one straight ahead (this may be Clay's room as it has a smaller closet). I don't remember the placing/sizes of hall closets. There's also some storage space under the car port. A couple other perks are central air and heating and the fenced-in backyard.

It's not as big or as close to work as the condo, but it feels more like a home.

We are going to check out one more duplex tonight just in case (not very trusting, I know, but I'd like to avoid another mad dash to find a new place if something goes wrong).

Edit: Here are some pictures of the place

We saw the other duplex tonight too, and it would be our second choice. It's only $10 more but seems a lot bigger. It's been vacant for 6 months and recently got a new owner, so a lot of renovation has been done. However, you can definitely tell it's been vacant from the outside. The outside would need a bit of work. Also, the pink sink in the bathroom and yellow counters in the kitchen really clashed with the rest of the house.

good luck I swear there was a place by our old house that looked like that. Hopefully you have good neighbors. We had a lot by us that smoked and had trashy front yards that were duplex residents

The duplex is no smoking or pets, so hopefully we don't run into that issue.
It is sort of close to your old house. There seem to be a lot of duplexes in that area.
